A truly incredible event in a fantastic location. Insane!
On 4 and 5 November 2023, eleven great winegrowers from eight German winegrowing regions invited guests to a culinary tasting in the finely restored Heppingen Castle (formerly Metternich Castle in Heppingen).
It’s like a dream to be able to savour exceptional wines from Germany’s most renowned winegrowers in this fantastic setting, accompanied by delicious finger food from Hans Stefan Steinheuer and his brilliant kitchen team. Great single vineyard sites and, above all, the high-quality GG’s, the Große Gewächse of the VDP wine estates, clearly demonstrate why German wine enjoys such a high international reputation.
I was there and am always blown away by these top qualities. A major highlight on these two tasting days was the vertical of the Spätburgunder GG, Dernauer Pfarrwingert, from 2015 to 2021 from the VDP Winery of the Year (here: VINUM 2023/4) Meyer-Näkel from Dernau. Grandiose. Matching glasses from ZALTO, the glass perfection.
