Premium walks with premium wines. As an all-inclusive event on a fixed date or as an individual event according to your own wishes.
My premium wine walkes and my premium wine tastings take place in an exclusive setting and are aimed in particular at nature lovers who are enthusiastic about wine. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 10 interested wine hikers. (Subject to change.) The minimum number of participants is 6. We prefer to hike through the vineyards, steep slopes and historic wine terraces along the Ahr.
Many factors characterise my premium wine walks (PWW) and premium wine tastings, making them very special experiences. I have been professionally and privately involved with wine and sparkling wine for more than 45 years. In the 1980s, I was one of the first German sommeliers and since 2020 I have been one of the first certified German Wine Professionals, the highest level of further training offered by the German Wine Institute (DWI).
After 38 years in the hotel industry, I set up my own wine event agency VinoPlan® in 2015 and now harmonise my knowledge of wine, my love of wine and my love of the Ahr Valley. This is the basis for my premium wine tours and wine tastings.
These are wines from the upmarket segments from garage winegrowers, young winegrowers, winegrowing families, organic winegrowers, winegrowers’ co-operatives, sparkling wine producers and, of course, the VDP wine estates. As an independent provider, I am not obliged to any one company and can always put together a reflection of the wine year.
The basis of a PWW is based on the levels of the VDP quality pyramid: Gutswein, Ortsweine, Erste Lage, Große Lage and Grosses Gewächs.
The basic equipment
As a basis for every premium wine tour, whether booked openly or individually, each participant receives mineral water, either still or medium in 0.5 litre PET bottles. In the vineyards, we naturally sample the wines from appropriate wine glasses, which are provided fresh from stop to stop. Lightly pressed wines are chilled accordingly. Bread and spittoons are obligatory at the wine tastings.
The legal requirements
Participation in the walk is at your own risk. By paying the participation fee, the general terms and conditions and the exclusion of liability are accepted.
Please note: Photos will be taken during the hikes for publication. Participants who do not wish to be included in the photos should inform us in writing before the start of the hike (a simple note is sufficient).
The personal requirements
Clothing suitable for hiking and the weather, sturdy hiking shoes. Backpack. Good health and sure-footedness. Above all, you should make sure you have the pleasure of enjoying wine in your luggage.
Tip: Don’t forget binoculars and camera; if necessary, a power bank as an energy reserve for your mobile phone and camera.
The manner
As the organiser and host, as your wine and hiking guide, I will accompany you for the next few hours. We will address each other in a sophisticated manner. I look forward to your participation.
The duration
Every hike is different – every group of participants is individual. I am happy to share my extensive knowledge of German wine with my participants. I am therefore happy to answer any questions my participants may have. The conclusion of the previous premium wine walks is that the originally planned walking times were too short. That is why the times given on my tours are now maximum times. It is therefore quite possible that themed walks may end before the planned duration.
The backpack
Please also bring your own rucksack. This makes it easier to distribute the bottles of wine, mineral water and provisions.
The weather and weather conditions
My premium wine walks are outdoor events that take place in almost any weather. If it is pouring with rain, I will look for alternative options for a wine tasting at a winery or similar location. If this is not possible at short notice, the walk will be postponed to another date. In this case, the participant has the choice between a refund of the payments made or a voucher of the corresponding monetary value.
The sample quantities
Unlike the classic walking tours with wine tastings from various winegrowers in the growing regions or the guided tours through winegrowers’ cooperatives, I select the wines according to the theme and calculate the quantities to be drunk. The sample quantities correspond to a typical wine tasting and are limited. We calculate approximately 60 ml per wine, which corresponds to a total sample quantity of more than half a bottle of wine (0.42 litres) for a 7-wine tasting. In addition, there is the welcome sparkling wine at the beginning with a good 0.1 litre.
The payment
If you would like to make a binding booking, please pay either the total amount or a minimum deposit of EUR 50.00 per person to my company account, stating the reason for payment as follows:
TRIODOS BANK N.V., Frankfurt/Main,
IBAN DE30 5003 1000 1030 2670 08.
The participation fee must always be paid in full before the start. This means that in the case of advance payments, the remaining balance must be paid in cash at the start (receipt/payment slip will be issued).
